Andrew B Church is a filmmaker, journalist and visual storyteller whose work has spent more than two decades focused on people and the stories that shape how we understand one another.
Andrew began his career in photojournalism before joining the U.S. Navy as a Mass Communication Specialist, working as a photographer, journalist, and multimedia producer. His work took him throughout the United States and overseas, documenting military operations and, more often, the people inside them. That experience reinforced an approach that has followed him throughout his career: go where the story is, pay attention, and let people speak for themselves.
After leaving the Navy, Andrew returned to journalism and documentary storytelling while earning his master’s degree. His graduate project, Tiny Texas, explored locally produced, human-centered stories and later evolved into YOURstory Docs. He has since worked across documentary, photography, education, institutional communications, and commercial production, including work for MFA Incorporated and Stephens College.
Across those roles, the medium has changed more often than the purpose. Andrew’s work is grounded in observation, curiosity, and respect for the people whose stories he is trusted to tell. Whether working in film, photography, journalism, or another form, he approaches storytelling less as a way of speaking for people than as a way of helping people be seen and heard.
Andrew is currently directing Finding Harding: Lost at Shore, a feature documentary that begins with the search for a former Navy shipmate and expands into questions of identity, purpose, structure, belonging, and disconnection after military service. The film is fiscally sponsored by the International Documentary Association and is currently in production.
